Beyond Barra da Tijuca lie Rio’s more untouched beaches. They take a little longer to get to but are well worth the time getting there. As you move away from Barra, you will encounter Recreio, which has even clearer waters, and is much less crowded.
There is also Prainha, with its stunning backdrop of hills covered in lush vegetation. This little gem of a beach has some of the best waves in Rio, making it a favorite with surfers. Here you will get away from the craziness of the city beaches and experience unspoiled nature. This is where MaximRio will take the more experienced surfers to surf some of the best break Rio has to offer.
Prainha is now very far away from the crowded Copacabana. Made famous by its perfect waves, it is also on a biological reserve, with restricted car parking spaces.
Travel a little further and you will find Grumari, an even more preserved beach. The best time to go is during weekdays, when you can really enjoy the quiet of this tropical paradise, listening to the surf breaking and the birds singing.
